Preserve Rural Maine is a grassroots 501(c)(3) dedicated to protecting the communities, cultures, and environmental integrity of rural Maine.
We work to ensure that rural communities, which too often bear the brunt of large-scale development, have a real seat at the table. That means protecting habitats, farms, forests, small businesses, and the irreplaceable culture of rural Maine.

Our story began in summer 2023, when thousands of residents across 40+ towns discovered their land had been quietly targeted for a proposed 150-mile transmission line with 150-foot towers cutting through the heart of central Maine. What started as neighbors with a shared mission has grown into a statewide movement.
We’re entirely volunteer-run, and every dollar you give goes directly toward advocacy, legislative engagement, and making sure rural Mainers are never left out of the conversation.
